15290 Coleman Valley Rd, Occidental. 80 acres that encompasses wild
lands of meadows and mixed oak, fir and redwood forests. The Center’s
bio-intensive organic gardens and orchards have been a source of
inspiration and training for thousands of gardeners, farmers and
landscapers for over 30 years.
Please
read special instructions: CARPOOL ENCOURAGED, limited
parking. The owner would like us to use upper lot, aprox. 100’
from main entrance. It looks like a ranch driveway & Phil may
post sign for us there. Pull open crude gate; you can leave open
for a short time only, then close, so horse doesn’t
get out, (behind electrified line). Those w/physical limitations
can park below or anyone can drop gear off below before parking
above, a 5 minute walk difference, though plenty to paint above
as well.

6225 Eastside Rd, Forestville Take River Rd exit from Hwy 101, go
west, turn right onto Trenton Healdsburg Rd (when you come down
the hill), left at Eastside Rd intersection, right onto lane leading
to farm. PRINT THIS OUT ‘cuz rules are worth this Plein Air
Mecca. Fabulous location/vistas include: pastures w/horses, cattle,
sheep, redwood groves & oak trees, distant hills to east by
greenhouse, to so.west from behind the centers, & vineyards
deeper in. Suggest: sturdy manure walking shoes, plenty of water,
sunscreen, umbrellas, and coming on time, as very little shade,
perhaps choosing to be under the overhang at the back of the Overlook
building & the Richard Thomas Ctr looking south west, or under
a few redwoods where critique will be or in front of livestock pavilion….PARKING
INSTRUCTIONS VERY IMPORTANT so that we will be welcome to return:
Our Use Permit requires us to park in designated spaces only, do
not block driveways nor entries to barns, etc. Do not park along
the entry road, do not drive into any gate that you have to open.
NO SMOKING anywhere on grounds. You may access the pastures by walking
only, (there are many more animals now then during our last 2006
visit); carefully lock the gates, which take a strong hand btw,
behind the Charles Becker Center, where office manager Leonard Diggs
office is. There may still be a bull some 3 fields in, however,
so you might not want to go so deep in where those woods are. You
may park across from Probation Camp on the right as you enter, under
the oak tree if you wish to paint the entry lane area. Parking otherwise:
Stay straight, drive in about 1/3 mi to: behind the Charles Becker
Center, Richard Thomas Center, or in front of The Warren Dutton
Overlook, or over at the Greenhouse, where the views of the hills
toward east-northeast are nice. Critique at 12:30 at Charles Becker
picnic tables. Bathrooms at both centers.
